Born in Osada Krechowiecka, a military settlement in Wołyń, Eastern Poland. Deported together with the family in 1940 to Arkhangelsk Oblast where they worked in a forest. Joined the Polish Armed Forces in the East and participated in the Italian Campaign. As a driver in the 316 Transport Company (PWSK) – women only – of the Polish II Corps Danuta transported ammunition, provisions, fuel as well as equipment and occasionally troops. After the war Danuta transferred with the army to the UK and settled in London.
